My chevron print window treatment is finally installed! It's already been five months since we moved in, and our living room window sat without window treatments until now. I was obsessed over finding the perfect fabric, and my heart was set on a chevron print... but the problem was, I couldn't find anything in a large scale black and white pattern, and the two I found were only available to the trade for over $200/ yard! I found the perfect solution: I designed my own fabric on AutoCAD, got it printed on a cotton/ linen fabric, shipped it over to my workroom, and she made them beautifully according to my specifications.
After the rods are installed, the drapes are dressed to maintain it's shape.
Hardware: Brushed nickel rods with end caps.
Drapery: 108" finished length, black and white print on cotton/ linen with grommets.
Accent: Two kidney pillows from the same fabric with a 1/4" flange and pleated corners.
Some other great options for chevron print drapes:
Scattered Chevrons Curtain - Anthropologie. Love the multi-colored uneven chevron print!
Bryn Fabric - Ruby Green Upholstery Fabric ($90/ yard). Beautiful but yikes! Especially since I needed 10 yards for my window. Available in pink, blue, and yellow.
Walko - Pierre Frey, based in France, represented by high end showrooms. My first choice of fabric, but very expensive and sold only to the trade.
My only concern with some of the other fabrics out there was the scale of the print. They were so small with a 2" repeat, it would have been dizzying! I'm very happy with my new addition!
Looks very nice!
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I'm looking for but in a different color! What is the program you used? I googled it, but it didn't make any sense to me...
ReplyDeleteI hope you can help!

Hello Johnson Family 4! I will email you separately as well.
ReplyDeleteAutoCAD is a computer aided drafting program that designers/ architects/ engineers use to draft and design. Let me know what color you are looking for!
I love these curtains! I have been scouring the internet looking for something very similar (but in a light gray and white). It seems that the only option is to make them myself - but I'm incredibly un-crafty and have zero tech ability. I googled AutoCAD as well and it seems as if you have to buy it? Do you have any advice? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Caitlin, thanks for stopping by! I can have a sample mailed to you via snail mail in a light grey if you want. Please let me know your email address so we can correspond!
ReplyDeleteSure, I'd love to chat! My email is caitlinjcarew@gmail.com. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDear Daily Decorum,
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you could clue me in on how to do this. I love the print and tried to paint the stripes on manually on the fabric, but it is taking too long and i think will be very costly in the end ( fabric paint costs a lot)...so I was wondering if you could help me out and see what the costs would be - i was looking for a beige and black stripe print. please contact me at blackcuracao@hotmail.com. thank you
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Can you send me what it would look like in pink? Thanks! melfatou@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your drapes and that I found your blog! I have loved the Walko fabric for a long time as well. By the time I inquired about it, it had been discontinued. Not that I could even afford it, but I still inquired about it. Ha!
I realized that I could have my fabric printed if I designed the pattern, so I set off to self-teach myself Illustrator and Photoshop with a free trial, but I could never get the pattern to repeat just right and then I ran out of the free trial time.
I abandoned the idea for a while, but have started thinking about it again last week. I have recently discovered I could paint the fabric and I'm willing to try it but still a bit hesitant over seeping paint.
Like you, I dont want the 1"-2" zigzags. And I also don't want many zigzags per panel. I have seen the Voltage by Schumacher and the zigs zags are thicker than most but it still feels a little busy. Besides the fact that is also very expensive!
If I can design the fabric, I would rather have it printed. Can you share a bit of what you did in AutoCAD? My Dad has the student version of it bc of a class he took but he hardly remembers much at all. I am willing to at least try to do it in AutoCAD, but AutoCAD is a lot more intimidating to me than Illustrator was.
Also, what is the thickness of your zigzags? I'd love to hear from you when you have a moment. My email is gomezliz_19@hotmail.com.
Thanks!
