Chanel - Little Black Jacket

I went to see the Chanel - Little Black Jacket exhibit last Wednesday, ended up loving it and went again on Friday.  What was amazing was how one jacket could look so different on the 100+ celebrities.  Each individual was styled according to their personality and unique traits, and even a few guys made the cut!  Loved Joshua Jackson's photo... the last person you would expect to be on the wall.  My personal favorites:  Vanessa Paradis, Sofia Coppola, and Charlotte Casiraghi.  Oh yeah, the adorable little girl with the Tiny Black Jacket :)

I heart - Red/Orange!

I'm really loving this red/orange color at the moment.  Ever since I saw this chic woman in Paris last spring wearing a trench coat in the same color way, I was obsessed with finding the perfect one.

10 Crosby Derek Lam - Belted Trench.  Love it!

OPI - Red Lights Ahead... Where?  Not as orangey, but still a great summer red with a hint of orange.

Denim Jackets

I've been searching high and low for the perfect little denim jacket for someone, and actually came across quite a few options.  Perfect to throw on over your spring dress and carry you through early fall... I think if you're looking to pair it only with dresses, a fitted, cropped (or shorter) version would work best.

Rag & Bone - Jean Jacket in Perfect Wash

Hudson - Catalina Signature Denim Jacket.  This one comes in fun colors as well. 

J. Crew - Nolita Jacket in Great Lakes Wash

J Brand - Slim Fitted Denim Jacket.  This one's not as short, I like the slim fit, cute paired with all fancy pants rage going on.

Current Obsession - Stripes

Actually, it's not a current obsession, more like an ongoing obsession.  A friend pointed out a few years ago... you wear a lot of tops with horizontal stripes.  Years later... it still holds true.  Right now, I'm loving these beauties.

Equipment Collarless Slim Signature Stripe Shirt - One of my favorite tops to wear right now... although sadly I don't have this one.  Love the colors!

Alice + Olivia Caroline Stripe Tunic - tunics are always great to throw on over jeans (or skinny black pants for work!).

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Part II

Widows of Culloden.  What you're about to see in this You Tube clip is a projected hologram of Kate Moss encased in a glass pyramid for Alexander McQueen's 2006-2007 runway show finale - she floats above the ground, surrounded by a cloud of beautifully cut chiffon.  I was enamored by this miniature replica at the Met, and stood there watching it two and a half times before being pushed away by the crowds.

And being the excellent photographer I am... (I kid!)  Here are some photos I snuck.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

The Alexander McQueen:  Savage Beauty exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was by far the most unique and creative exhibit I have ever seen.  I couldn't believe the genius of [Lee] Alexander McQueen - his fashion creations were a form of art.  And his creative/ production designers who served as the exhibition's creative directors did such an amazing job with the interior design with the space.  They transformed a part of the Met into a theatrical walk down the course of McQueen's life.  It really was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see his beautiful collection.  It was wild to see the dates on some his works... 2010, so recent, so tragic.

Spring Transition - April Showers Bring May Flowers!

The first thing I bought when I moved to New York was this beauty:

See by Chloe - Printed Rain Boots.  Tall lace up rain boots with an embossed pocket and logo on the side, and a blue printed lining.  Every chance I get, even the slightest chance of rain I'm wearing them, especially in the snow!  I can go knee deep in snow and be completely dry and comfy.  

The first time I experienced rain in New York, I was caught off guard because in California, you're pretty much just going from your car to an indoor location.  While walking around in the rain wearing my silk ballet flats, I noticed all the girls wearing wellies and very well prepared for the rain.  Then there was me... after about an hour, my ballet flats were pretty much ruined.  Now I heart my rain boots!  

Spring is just around the corner with April showers bringing May flowers, and  I hear it gets hot pretty quickly.  During my routine stroll through Soho, I found the perfect solution for wellies during the spring and summer when it gets too hot to wear tall boots.  

J Crew - Rainy Day Bow Ballet Flats.  Cute, simple, perfect for the rain!  I'm considering getting them in either the color below, yellow, grey, or black.  

Madewell - Ilse Jacobsen Short Rain Boot.  A Scandinavian designed rain boot that's simple and straight forward.  I'm loving the blue.

Recent Purchase: J Brand Jeans

I finally tried on some J Brand jeans after several recommendations.  I asked the sales person, so what makes J Brand denim so great?  There's so many great denim brands out there, what would make me want to buy J Brand?  She answered me with:  there's no other denim company that has such a wide variety of cuts and styles - to fit any woman out there.  From a stick skinny person, to the very curvy.  I rarely buy jeans because I'm very picky; needless to say... I ended up buying two pairs:

12" Pencil Leg in Ink

Bellbottom Stretch in Ink - I don't remember the name of these...

Already tailored and ready to wear.  I always buy jeans in dark washes because they slowly get lighter anyways, and also, dark washes look better on a night out.  Love them!

Vanity Fair 2011 Hollywood Issue

Have you seen the March 2011 issue of Vanity Fair?  Three out of my top seven male celebrities grace the cover!  Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and James Franco.

I like Anne Hathaway as well.  The rest of the cover (pull out) features many of Hollywood's young actors as well.  The last Vanity Fair issue I purchased featured Robert Pattinson on the cover.  I think the photographers for the magazine does such a great job with the portraiture.

My only complaint:  Olivia Wilde's gown(?).  Everyone else is oozing glamour, and they dress her in a piece of cloth that partially covers her breast.  No?

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2011

We were walking down Mercer Street in Soho on Sunday, and suddenly - click click, there was a photographer snapping away at us while we walked away.  I later found out they were getting ready for the Y-3 collection showing, and today I found out that photographers are usually out and about around the runway shows taking pictures of "regular" people and their styles.  I just hope we don't land in some magazine's "don't" feature.

Inside the Homes of Fashion Designers

I feel like for most people, your fashion style and your home decor go hand in hand.  For instance, if you see the photos of the following fashion designers' homes and the description, you can picture the clothes they design in the interior design.

Nanette Lepore - Manhattan townhouse.  Designed by Jonathan Adler, whimsical with a dose of Hollywood glamour.

Ralph Lauren - Manhattan.  All American style, restrained yet sophisticated aesthetic.

Jill Stuart - Manhattan apartment at Phillip Johnson's Urban Glass House.  Designed by Annabelle Seldorf, simple white furnishings with a burst of color let the view of downtown Manhattan take center stage.

Michelle Smith (Label:  Milly) - Manhattan apartment.  Designed by Anik Pearson and Shaun Jackson, features vibrant fixtures and vibrant color palette.

Anna Sui - Manhattan apartment.  This Greenwich Village apartment was turned into her study/ retreat and extra closet space, reflects her eclectic style.

Betsey Johnson - Eloise Suite at the Plaza Hotel.  Playful, candy colored suite fit for a princess.

It's no surprise many fashion designers dabble in the interior design industry.  I know a lot of interior designers frown upon the crossover, but I think if you have an eye for making beautiful clothing, your skills translate easily into the home decor realm.  If it looks great, I say why not?

Designer Feature: Alice + Olivia

I recently discovered Alice + Olivia while passing by a window display.  I was immediately drawn to a bold black and white, lace striped dress on a mannequin, and ventured in to see the collection.  Very chic and put together without being over the top - I feel like you can wear one of the dresses in the collection, add on simple accessories and be ready for whatever the occasion may be.  The website designer turned fashion designer has a very cool and funky website, I just spent some time looking through her bio and perusing, and the rest of her collection is pretty awesome as well.

Danny Lace Stripe Blouson Dress - the dress that caught my eye... but the fabric is too delicate for unladylike me.

Diana Peplum Dress - Love the front, and the detail gets even better in the back.

Alessia One-Shoulder Metallic Peplum Dress - love the color combination

Can you tell I really like dresses?  I can't wait for spring and summer, it's been snowing since Tuesday night... cold, but it's beautiful!  I hope you're keeping warm out there!
